Drawing inspiration from the turtles

Our founder, Gavin, is an adventurer at heart, always seeking wide open spaces to energise his soul. It seemed only natural that he has ended up building The Long Lunch, a travel company with purpose.

He believes that intentional, conscious travel is the best way to experience the world. For him, that means approaching all aspects of a trip with awareness of the impact that each decision has on our wellbeing, the environment and the places we visit.

It was as a teenager, while working to save sea turtles on the coasts of Costa Rica, where Gavin was first moved by the transformative power of travel. In the decades following, this notion was only reinforced with his time in executive roles within the industry as he witnessed the good that conscious tourism could bring to communities. He sees travel as a vehicle for inclusion, connection and joy.

Some of his greatest loves include hotel lobbies, train journeys and the evolution of aircraft design. When not planning travel for others, you'll find Gavin exploring the world one bike ride and park at a time. He's always been a fan of taking the long way.
